Apple might finally allow users to transfer eSIM to Android

Switching phones has become significantly easier in the past few years, but a big hurdle that still remains is transferring eSIMs. It presented an extra obstacle when switching from an iPhone to Android, but this is about to change.

According to Android Authority, Apple is preparing a feature for iOS 19 that will allow users to transfer their eSIM profile from iPhone to Android effortlessly. A string in the code suggests the feature will be called “Transfer to Android,” available in Settings.

The string suggests a new QR code will be generated, allowing Android phones to add the eSIM simply by scanning the code (as it is right now). There is also a line suggesting that only phones with iOS 19 (or later) will be allowed to move their profile to Android.

Currently, all Apple smartphones sold in the United States are eSIM only, meaning there is no physical slot for the SIM card. Users have to contact their carrier to receive a personalized QR code, which is extremely inconvenient for all parties.

WWDC is scheduled for June 9-13, so we should hear details about this feature in about two weeks’ time.
